High School Movie Trailer

Ferris Bueller Trailer Remake

For this project, we were assigned to do a shot by shot remake of a movie trailer taking place in high school. Collectively as a class, we had to brainstorm which movies we'd be interested in. We were placed into groups based off of our favorite ideas from there. I was put into the Ferris Bueller group, which was my top vote, so it was a relief. From the start, my group was very organized in getting everything ready to film. We set up a google doc and had all of the shots organized, the costumes sorted out, and formulated a prop list.  One of the best decisions we made during pre-production was casting mostly inside of our group. It really helped with scheduling later on. We made sure to cast people who could film during school, or had a connection to one of our group members.

Filming was a bit difficult at times, because we had to reschedule a couple of times. We began filming at school and got all of the shots including the students, then the ones that had the principal and secretary. The majority of the trailer took place outside of school, so we had to spend a couple of days filming at Kate's house. Throughout the filming process, I was mostly behind the camera as the cinematographer.

Most of our editing was done at the same time we were filming. While we were filming the clips with Mr. Johns, one of my group members stayed back in the room and edited. The audio was a bit of an issue, because we had our actors say the lines instead of dubbing them, which meant we would need to find the music in the background separately. We later discovered in editing that the background audio was a mix of three songs, so we'd need to combine them somehow. Due to time constraints toward the end, we ended up only using one of the songs, which ended up sounding fine. My group overall did great on time management and communicating on what needed to get done and when. If I were to go back and change anything, I'd probably start the filming process before spring break so we'd have more time to work with the audio. Although, I am really proud of how this project turned out and I learned a lot about the importance of pre-production.
