[Filler image credits to Brady Bellini] Overview A week ago, we were assigned a web design project that showcased two of our favorite projects in the rotations that we've been through so far.  Using videos as a tool from our instructor, we followed along with their steps and created a website.   How It Went Along the way, there were plenty of technical struggles. One major road bump that my computer just couldn't work with was wrapping the text around my logo. After spending around twenty minutes working on it, and another ten from classmates, I finally surrendered. I also found the coding confusing, so I spent the majority of my time in the design mode. Other than these small frustrations, the project actually went pretty smoothly. Hi! I’m Layne Renfrow, and I’m currently a student in Olathe Northwest eCommunications program. Of the four fields in the program, I am most interested in video production and graphic design. Both of which, I could see myself having a future career in. My highest accomplishments have been in the graphic design field. I am passionate about editing photos, and redesigning them to make them unique. But, I’m eager to continue learning more about editing, both in video and photos. I have a positive personality, and I’m very friendly to those I am meeting for the first time. Overview For this project, we were asked to create a logo that reflects ourselves. Each shape and color had to come together for one overall meaning. Beforehand, we watched some videos for inspiration and design help. Then we would sketch some ideas and decide on three of our favorites. The next day, we could sit down at the computers and start to create a black and white copy. Once we were approved on our original designs, we could move onto the color process, where we would select which color scheme best fit our logo. Finally, we would tailor the final copy of the logo. How It Went I started out with no visual idea of what I was going to do. My original shape idea was a circle with a cursive "L" inside, which at the beginning, I really liked and thought about using. Filler Image Contrast-   The contrast is what the viewer first sees in an image, and once I got started on this assignment, I knew the title had to be the main focal point of the poster. I had first decided on using the same font as "Olathe Northwest Theatre Presents," but felt that it didn't stand out enough. It took awhile to find a font that I actually liked, but I finally decided on "Phosphate." After completing the title, I changed the color to white, as it stood out the most compared to black, yellow, and green, which were my color scheme choices for the project. Once I was done with the colors and text, I finished the contrast with the transparent image of the main characters placed behind the title on the yellow brick road to draw attention. Overview For this assignment, we were asked to create a typography "guide" using our names typed in a serif font. From there, we could access a typeface parts directory to help with the creation of our labels. These labels would point out the specific pieces of our names that created the font. All together, the finished product would create the overall anatomy of a typeface. What I've Learned As I was creating this project, I slowly realized how many specific parts of a word have to go into making a font. This time around on Adobe Illustrator, I learned to use both the art board and paintbrush tools. When I was about halfway through the project, I realized that since my name was a bit shorter, and I wasn't going to get all of the 10 required typefaces by only pointing out the ones on the outsides of letters.   Filler Image Logo Color Schemes Analogous Colors John Deere's logo uses the analogous colors of yellow and green. I think the company probably chose these colors because green symbolizes nature, which is what the company is for. The YMCA logo uses the analogous colors of blue and violet. I think the company probably chose these colors because they are pleasing to look at, and it sparks both imagination and it leaves the customer comfortable and dependent on the company. Warm Colors   Toblerone's logo uses the warm colors of yellow and red. I think the company probably chose these colors because they're bright and positive, raising the customer's attention toward the product.    Red Bull's  logo uses the warm colors of yellow and red. Project Overview         This week's assignment in Graphic Design was to create a color wheel. Before starting, we discussed how to work with illustrator and we had the chance to walk-through the project. Demonstrated on the color wheel would be the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. The primary three, red, yellow, and blue, would stand out the most as they are the basis for all of the other colors. Then, the three secondary colors, green, violet, and orange. Lastly, the final 6 tertiary colors meet in the middle of secondary and primary colors. What I've Learned         Learning how to use Illustrator was a bit of a challenge.
